Winnie Madikizela-Mandela (1936–2018) was a South African anti-apartheid activist, politician, and the wife of Nelson Mandela. Known as the “Mother of the Nation,” she was a key figure in the struggle against apartheid, enduring imprisonment, exile, and constant surveillance. She remained a powerful advocate for Black South Africans and served in government after apartheid ended.
