Part of the Reflections of a Queen series, this mixed-media portrait honours Ruth Mompati, a South African anti-apartheid activist and freedom fighter who played a significant role in the struggle for democracy and women's emancipation. Inspired by her legacy, the artwork incorporates vibrant orange tones, gold embellishments and a circular composition reminiscent of a coin, symbolising the value of women's contributions to history. Through this work, I celebrate Mompati's courage, resilience and unwavering commitment to freedom, while advocating for greater recognition of African women in historical narratives and representations of power.
